Presque Isle State Park (Erie, Pennsylvania): Home to over 3,200 sandy acres, this state park is often fondly referred to as Pennsylvania’s only “seashore”. It features nine distinct public swimming beaches, including the popular Beach 11. Located in Erie, Pennsylvania on the southwestern shore of Lake Erie, this is perhaps the most iconic destination along the lake. The park features a 9-mile peninsula of beach and dunes that juts out into the lake, making it one of the largest sand dune systems in the country. Visitors can rent bikes to ride around the entire peninsula, walk the beach and enjoy stunning views of Lake Erie, relax by the water in designated picnic areas, and explore interpretive trails that showcase the local ecology and history. The park is also home to a popular lighthouse that overlooks the beach and offers a great vantage point for photography. The boardwalk runs for several hundred yards and provides easy access to the sand while letting visitors observe wildlife in their natural habitat.
Headlands Beach State Park (Mentor, Ohio): Known for having one of the largest natural sand beaches in the state, it offers a beautifully wooded backdrop and great swimming areas.
Huntington Beach (Bay Village, Ohio): Located just west of Cleveland, this Blue Wave-certified beach offers scenic views, picnic areas, and great paddleboarding opportunities.
Bennett Beach Park (Erie County, New York): Where Big Sister Creek meets Lake Erie, this New York spot features large sandy beaches and impressive natural sand dunes.
Erie Beach – There are several informal beach areas along the lakefront in Erie, Pennsylvania and in Ohio that are more community-driven as an alternative to state parks.
Maumee Bay State Park
Sitting near Toledo, Ohio, this is another premier beach destination along Lake Erie. The park offers over 6 miles of sandy beach, making it an excellent spot for swimming, sunbathing, and fishing. The water quality has improved significantly in recent years, and the area is protected by state regulations. There are numerous picnic areas, camping sites, and boating opportunities available for visitors. The beach is perfect for families and features amenities like restrooms, parking, and lifeguard coverage during summer months. The dunes and wetlands surrounding the area also provide habitat for numerous bird species.

Bay Beach (Crystal Beach): Located in Fort Erie, this highly popular, white-sand beach features pristine, clear waters and modern amenities, including accessible beach mats and a pavilion. It is highly rated as one of the top destinations in the Niagara region.
Port Stanley Main Beach: A recognized Blue Flag-certified stretch of sand known for its immaculate water quality, safety, and proximity to great local restaurants.
Long Point Provincial Park: Located south of Simcoe, this massive 40-kilometer spit of sand features shallow, warm waters and sweeping dunes, making it ideal for families and nature lovers. A massive 40 KM (25 mile beach) on a sand spit. Very popular, pre-book the park online. The magnificent beach at Long Point Provincial Park offers visitors a truly spectacular natural experience. The soft, sandy beach provides an idyllic setting for beachcombing, sunbathing, and enjoying the scenic views of the Great Lake. Beyond the beach itself, the park offers additional recreational opportunities including canoeing along the sheltered waters of Long Point Bay marsh and cycling on the over five kilometers of park roadways that wind through this world-renowned biodiversity reserve. This breathtaking natural asset is part of Ontario’s oldest provincial parks and a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, making it a stunning destination for both nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts seeking a peaceful retreat by the water.
Point Pelee National Park: The most southern point of mainland Canada offers secluded, natural beaches. The Northwest Beach is highly recommended for its quiet, tranquil atmosphere.
